I like the red coffee table, it gives the eye a place to start, you can increase its focus with a slight vignette. This image doesn't need the lens flare. If you want to keep a flare, try making a subtle custom one from Knoll Light Factory.

Agree with the above. Also, the landing at the base of the staircase should have at minimum 1m² of space. I think perhaps the sofa against the opposite wall may work. The ottoman and sofa in general block circulation from the door to the stairway.
