I tried growFX and I like it. Needs a certain amount of cryptic thinking to visualize how the settings affect the final model. I'd prefer more graphic approach when learning. I dont think its fair to knock Onyx though. Its fantastic, very versatile and if you have the Garden Suite w/ Treestorm its hard to beat. Esp with the massive amount of presets it ships with. I have not had stability issues either. In fact, I had huge lag on the regen with GrowFX in the max viewport with just 1 complex growing tree. I think GrowFX is a little cheaper, but not better. As modelers they are the same, but its nice that GrowFX operates inside Max.

Yes, GrowFX has presets now, I dislike Onyx too, it's terrible and unstable! ))) We plan to release libraries of different plants for GrowFX in July 2011.

has it got presets yet? would be a good alternatuve to onyx (which is one of the most awful outdated pieces of software i ahve ever used) if they could get a decent preset library together imo.

I made over 800 of 3d models in GrowFX and I like it - it is powerful and flexible! You could make any type of tree or plant and animate wind or it's grow. A lot of trees available on my web-site

Nice test - I'm interested in seeing more tests you do. Keep posting them. How do you like growFX so far? I'm thinking about purchasing it.
